When you live by the sea the tide tells time for your days and your nights, the diurnal pull of the moonrise lapses twice daily like the hands on a clock, and on the coast everything bounces to meet it. We live on islands here, little jetties and manmade spits tangled up along the edges of some ancient peninsula. It's not New York, it's not Old Amsterdam, it's just a few rocky hilltops dropping down between rivers butting up against the dunes of the beach.
